It is not everyday models walk the floors of North Providence High School. On Friday, March 21, the red carpet was lit up with the stars of the first ever Prom Fashion Show. This event was hosted by a collaboration of three groups, SADD, the Angel Network, and the senior class. The profits were distributed between them respectively.
Why have a fashion show? Well, firstly, it was held in the memory of a drunk driving victim who passed away in an accident in 2002. In her honor and to discourage drinking and driving, SADD had a booth selling Mocktails, non-alcoholic drinks.
Dresses and tuxedos for the fashion show came as donations from Debs, David’s Bridal, Men’s Warehouse, and Carl Anthony Tuxedos. The Angel Network also exhibited its own dresses in the fashion show. The dresses were donations from students at the high school who no longer needed them and were sold to the public during the show.
Other exciting additives to the show were raffle baskets (that were created with donations from salons around North Providence), and sweet treats (donated by Dunkin Donuts and Ronzios). Over twenty models walked in the show – all North Providence High School students. Overall, according to Senior class president Danielle Carey, “the event was a complete success. Everyone had a lot of fun.” There is great hope that this will become an annual event to bring inspiration and fun to the pre-Prom season.
