Senior Erica D’Errico is doing her Senior Project on an attempt to change the school for the better!
She asked herself, “How can I get my school and the rest of the community to recycle to its fullest capacity and become aware of how recycling will effect the environment?” She then thought of an idea. “I can get my school and the rest of my community to recycle and become aware of how recycling will effect the environment by going before people in charge of budgets, as well as create ads and implement a recycling program.”
So, she has started a new environmental club at NPHS called The Green Team.
This club, with Mr. Bowers as the teacher administrator, meets once a week for only about 15 minutes collecting and dumping recycling bins. If interested, listen to the announcements for future meetings! New members are always welcome.
Erica had met with the Superintendent, Melissa Smith, for help. She tells the Cougar Courier, “At first, I was really nervous to speak with her, but I absolutely love her. She’s been a huge help with my project.” Erica had also met with the towns mayor and was able to receive some funding for her project!
This years officers are:
President– Erica D’Errico (Senior)
Vice President– Andrew Seegulam (Senior)
Secretary– Victoria D’Errico (Freshman)
Treasurer– Kelsey Burgess (Senior)
Photographer– Richard Leandre (Senior)
This new club has a list of goals for the year:
-Make sure all classrooms are using the recycling bins properly.
-Start recycling in the cafeteria.
-Make a video to tell the school what the team is all about!
She hopes The Green Team will continue and be successful even after she graduates.
