In the premier matchup of the week, the Cougar Football team faced off against the Burriville Broncos last Saturday.
All eyes were on them as they were both the only undefeated teams left in Division 4 play. Burriville came down from Division 3 this year looking to make a statement after not having a winning season in the last couple of years. The Cougars, being the defending state champions, were also a forced to reckoned with. This game was expected to be a close one all the way through. The game started out with the Broncos getting ball and scoring fast, driving down the field and scoring in a matter of 2 minutes. The Cougars then got the ball and started grinding it out. 4 yards, 5 yards, 8 yards, a polar opposite to Burriville’s but very effective. It all ended when the Cougars fumbled at the Bronco’s 10-yard line and that is when the Broncos went to work. The Broncos threw all over the Cougar defense while on offense and while on defense stuffed the Cougar run game and stopped the pass game. The game ended a whopping 41-6 with the Broncos coming out on top. Burriville QB Isaiah DeSilva threw for 253 yards and completed 16 of his 18 passes and had 3 TD’s. WR Riley Tupper catch all 3 of DeSilva’s touchdown passes and also caught a total of 11 passes for 203 yards and returned an interception for 45 yards for a TD. Burriville RB Zach Tayes also accounted for 2 rushing TD’s. The only offense generated for the Cougars was on the ground by Nathan Moreira who rushed for 75 yards and a TD and QB David Tacelli who rushed for 43 yards respectively.
The Cougars next game is against The North Smithfield Northmen on Friday 10/7. Both teams come into the game with a 3-1 record.
