Cougars On The Come-Up!: A Fall Mid-Season Review

As we near the end of the fall sports here at North Providence High School, it is time to look back at the remarkable achievements our Cougars have accomplished in this 2023-2024 season!

Cougar Soccer

Both our girls and boys soccer teams have been displaying skills, determination, and teamwork on the pitch, not to mention making their mark with finesse and grace. The boys soccer team is currently at a record of 3-6-5, with their most recent win being against the Panthers of Johnston High School on October 14, an astounding 7-2 victory. The girls soccer team has been gaining some serious traction, with an impressive record of 5-3-3, which puts them on track for the Division II playoffs. Their last game was a stupendous 5-1 triumph over the Townies of East Providence High School. Look out for more from these two amazing teams.

Cougar Cross Country

Cross country is back for another year of amazing races and flawless victories. After a great 2022-2023 season, the boys cross country team are racing towards another exceptional year with a current record of 6-6-0. Their last win was against the Patriots of Davies Career-Tech High School, an outstanding 15-46 result. The girls cross country team are also on the winner’s track, with a record of 4-7-0 this season, their last win being a 19-44 victory over Davies. Overcoming injuries, brutal weather, and tough courses, their continued efforts and dedication to the sport will undoubtedly lead to further achievements as the season progresses.

Cougar Football

This season, the Cougar football team is on the prowl, and they are hungry for victory. After a final record of 5-5-0 last season, the football team came back with a vengeance, and they are trampling the competition. Their last win was a close one, but they came out on top with a nail-biting 22-21 win over the Spartans of Scituate High School. Of course, the 16-22 loss against Davies at the Homecoming Game was disappointing, but with a current record of 3-2-0, they’re proving to be fierce competitors in every game. Fans can be sure to expect some thrilling match-ups and vicious rivalries in the second half of the season.

Cougar Tennis

Girls tennis has been serving up excellence on the court this season. This season has been a bit rocky, with a current record of 3-8-0. Regardless of the circumstances, the girls have been nothing but persistent, dedicated, and driven to secure more wins for their team. Their last victory was against the Tiverton Tigers, a fantastic 7-0 win. As they continue to rally and ace their way through the season, they are setting a shining example of what it really means to be a Cougar.

Cougar Volleyball

The girls volleyball team has been bumping, setting, and hitting their way through this 2023-2024 season. Being the second year of the program, expectations were high for this newly established team, and they did not disappoint. After a tough 0-14-0 record last year, this season is a huge turnaround with a current record of 4-10-0. This shows significant improvement, and the girls have been showing tremendous effort and enthusiasm, leading them to their most recent win against the division leaders, a teeth-clenching 3-2 victory over the Kilties of Mount Pleasant High School. Their consistent drive to better their team has made them an inspiration to all Cougars.
