Cinderella, the age old tale of a beautiful girl escaping from her evil mother and stepsisters and falling in love with a charming prince. The theme that encapsulated Season 4 of Bridgerton. This show is a Netflix original series that follows the Bridgertons, a respected aristocratic family in the Regency-Era of Great Britian, and their love stories. This year focused on Benedict Bridgerton, the rebellious and carefree second son and his eventual infatuation with Sophie Baek – our Cinderella in question. Sophie was resigned to work under her stepmother after her father died but strongly desired one night of freedom and extravagance. This led her to an aristocratic party where she met Benedict. From the moment they met, they faced an undeniable attraction for each other but had to resist because of their class differences. Spoiler alert but they ended up together in the end after their numerous trials and tribulations.
In my opinion, this season was really good. It was well written with all characters having their own story line, captivating the audience even more. It was also extremely charming and cute because you could feel the chemistry and tension between the love interests. I may be biased though because I love Cinderella and this was a great approach to retell that story. I would give it a 4.5/5 for its overall score.
Furthermore, this season explored the third Bridgerton daughter, Francesca, and her relationship with her husband, John. John ultimately dies at the end of the season but because of that, theres speculation that season 5 will expand on Francesca and Michaela’s, John’s cousin, relationship and follow how they eventually become romantic partners. This season was truly amazing but there’s more to come from the Bridgerton franchise and I’ll be seated for it all.
