Academic Decathlon – a club that tests its students on fundamental topics, a club that challenges students to further and enhance their knowledge, and a club that allows for the overall betterment of the next generations scholars. Member Amir Depina sums it up perfectly – “Decathlon, despite being a very grueling competition…is an extremely important experience…to learn new skills and ways of studying.”
North Providence High School has hosted this club for years, with Delores Paesano as the advisor, and is proud to present the 3 medalists for 2026:
- Senior, Alisha Zhuang, for a bronze medal in the speech department in the Honors Division, and for the overall top scorer from NPHS
- Senior, Amir Depina, for a gold medal in his interview in the Varsity Division Sophomore. As a gold medal senior, he will attend the RIAD State House Ceremony to receive a citation from the House of Representatives and a $500 scholarship check.
- Yihan (Regina) Zhou for a silver medal in the Social Science event in the Honors Division
“Congratulations to Alisha, Amir, and Regina for taking on the decathlon challenge and to all 15 students who participated this year,” – Ms. Paesano.
An awesome job to everyone who competed sunday and we can’t wait to see who will place next year!
