It seems like only a little while ago when we were placed into one of two groups to alternate in-person and virtual learning: last names A-K and last names L-Z. COVID and the physical, social, and academic demands of being high school freshmen were not a good mix. Yet, we persisted, and the results of our past four years are testaments to our growth.
From impassioned drama and musical productions to championship wins in basketball and football to record-breaking victories across various academic teams to tens of thousands of dollars raised in volunteer and charity efforts, the Class of 2024 has left a legacy as one of the most talented and impactful groups of individuals in the history of North Providence High. We’ve recognized our passions and made something tangible of them; we’ve outgrown our blurry associations with last names A-K and L-Z and come to understand ourselves as adults.
For many of us, a terrifying question lingers behind our euphoria and relief that high school is coming to an end: what next? For others of us, we have a defined plan but are nervous about how it will pan out. Life isn’t so predictable that I, or any other being on Earth can assure you a perfect path if you simply “chase your dreams”. So, I’ll leave the Class of 2024 with a lesson I learned recently: chase opportunity. The interests and passions you’ve developed will help guide you through the uncertainty of adulthood; chasing opportunity will allow you to leave a legacy as you pass. I’m excited to see how we graduates will impact the world in the years to come.
