Spring Sports Are Here!

Nina Omanyo, Reporter

Spring sports at North Providence are underway with a rocky, but exciting, start to the season. On Monday, the first ever boy’s volleyball game in NPHS history ended in defeat. Both JV and varsity lost three straight sets against the Shea/Tolman co-op team for a final score of 0-3, but after playing with such tenacity and passion, it is still an amazing achievement for the boys of North Providence. Also on Monday, the NPHS/CHSE co-op boy’s lacrosse team faced off against the Lincoln Lions, losing 6-12.

On Tuesday, the Lady Cougars lacrosse team, the Cougar track team, and the Lady Cougars softball team competed against varying schools. Girl’s lacrosse faced the Spartans of Scituate High School on the brand new NPHS field, with JV winning 8-6 and varsity suffering a nail biting 14-16 loss. The boy’s and girl’s track team faced multiple schools at a track meet, placing third overall. The girl’s softball team had a rough start to their season, losing 1-8 to the Northmen of North Smithfield. The Cougars of North Providence may have had a tough kick off to the 2023 spring sports season, but resilience will ensure that we secure many victories in the future to come. There are games every week, so be sure to come and show your school spirit!
