Cracking Down on Tardiness at NPHS

Christine Pietkiewicz

On Monday, November 8th at the commencement of period 2 at North Providence high school, teachers were instructed to shut and lock their classroom doors, not allowing any late students into the room. Students late to class were then instructed to go to the school office, where they received a late pass and one hour of detention after school the next day. This “tardy drill” was the first of its kind, and it occurred due to the school administration taking measures to further its rules against tardiness.

Mrs. Lisi spoke on the matter, stating that “We (NPHS administrators) had noticed that after the bell rang, there were still kids in the hallways late to class. We started the tardy drills to combat this.” When asked about the effectiveness of the drills and if they have changed the amounts of students late to class, she said “We will definitely be continuing these drills, because they work, and we cannot have students missing that critical class time.”
