Eternals Review

Eternals, the newest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is one of the most ambitious movies of the year. It introduces a whole new cast to the MCU, including Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and others.

Academy Award-winning director Chloė Zhao created a movie completely unique to its fellow Marvel movies. Although it had the familiar action sequences and charming characters of its predecessors, this movie had a beauty that truly showed Zhao’s artistic styles.

At times the plot gets lost within the backstory given in the two and half hour film. It was a brave choice to introduce an entirely new ensemble in just one movie without mentioning them previously. However, the chemistry between the group made up for the occasionally confusing plot.

The overwhelmingly negative reviews of the Eternals movie remind us that this movie was not made for Critics; it was made for its audience. The MCU casts are majority made up of white male actors. Eternals leading cast included POC, LGBT, and disabled representation that the others lacked. This movie finally allowed everyone to see themself as superheroes.
