Governor Gina Raimondo announced today that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, RI public schools would remain closed and distance learning initiatives would be continued through the end of April.

Raimondo was complementary towards the administrators and teachers for their success in distance learning over the last week. She also praised the Department of Education’s efforts, under the leadership of Commissioner AngĂ©lica Infante-Green, in supporting the state’s schools.

Raimondo said that she will re-evaluate the situation later in April to determine if schools would open up again before the end of this school year or if the closures would continue into May.
