Sonic The Hedgehog – The Best Movie I Ever Jokingly Went To See

Ahmad Almutaseb

Like many others, I was anticipating the release of the infamous Sonic The Hedgehog movie, which was coming out on Valentines Day of all times. Not because I legitimately expected it to be good, but because my friends and I wanted to come in to a “so-bad-it’s-good” experience similar to other lackluster films like, The Room or The Amazing Bulk. However, walking out of the theater that Saturday night, I found myself pleasantly surprised by how much I legitimately enjoyed the film! I honestly ended up enjoying it more than the screening of Detective Pikachu I went to see earlier this year. There were times when the film was incredibly self-aware of itself and its audience, and I’m honestly a sucker for that kind of humor, along with a lot of legitimately funny jokes that got some disturbingly loud laughs out of me, in addition to the fair share of heartwarming, emotional moments that ironically slowed things down a lot in a movie about a blue hedgehog that just wants to go fast. Really what took the cake for me in this film was Jim Carrey’s performance as the main antagonist Dr. Robotnik! I have to say, this is one of the best acts I’ve seen from Carrey, and every moment he was onscreen had me in tears with just how funny and expressive his performance was. If not for any other reason, go see the film for him! Overall, the Sonic movie had a strange but familiar charm to it throughout, which made it one of the best films I ever could’ve ironically walked into!
