I had recently went with a group of friends to see the highly anticipated animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse instead. To give some background, the movie was about the teen Miles Morales who is already overwhelmed after going into a new and prestigious school where he feels alienated from his peers and even to an extent his own family. However, his life shifts even further after being bitten by a radioactive spider in the classic Spider-Man style that everybody knows and loves. Not only that, but he gets caught in the midst of the conflict of his universe’s Spider-Man against the main antagonist Kingpin and his plan to merge several different universes together. I have personally always loved the concept of parallel universes and alternate dimensions, so this movie was definitely a treat for me. But what really drew me in was the ongoing side plot of Miles’ attempts to connect to his father, along with the struggle of living up to the expectations of not only him but his new school as well. This aspect along with the amusing humor and the frequent references to past incarnations of the character that always brought a smile to my face are the highlights of the film. I would definitely recommend this film, even if you’re relatively unfamiliar with Spider-Man, and especially if you’re a huge fan of  the series!
