A Guidance Councilor’s Guide to Choosing Classes

Aisha Siddiqui, Features Editor

As students start to pick classes for the upcoming year, Mr. Paone offered some advice to the students of NPHS. Guidance councilors will come into classes this week to start scheduling. A couple new classes are being offered such as Marine Academy, a Photoshop course, and Business Ventures class. Incoming freshmen can also take a course titled P-Tech Health initiative and which is currently in the works to be run in the fall.

In regards to AP classes, Mr. Paone wants to remind students to know their limits when it comes to higher level classes. AP stands for “advanced placement,” therefore the course load will be larger and the level of work will be higher. These AP classes are offered in every department at the school. Teachers teaching these classes will encourage their students to take the AP exam in May and hopefully the students will perform well. AP classes can sometimes double up as a Early Enrollment credit (EEP) but this is not offered for every advanced class. EEP classes are classes where the students enrolled can earn college credit for taking that course.

Overall, take classes you are comfortable with and believe you will do well in. Do not be afraid to take higher level, challenging classes but do not overload yourself. Good luck scheduling and look forward to another exciting school year!
