Nerds Assemble!

Every Thursday there is a meeting of like-minded people who come together to discuss their hobbies and favorite shows. These people are growing in numbers thanks to Mr. Gianfrancesco and Kathleen DaVega. What alias does their group go by? The Nerd Herd. What is the Nerd Herd? A meeting of nerds, of course! And to my surprise, there are a whole lot of topics that fall under the category of ‘nerdy’. Throughout the year this club discusses a variety of topics, including superheroes, science fiction, fantasy, anime, cosplay and much more.

Kathleen DeVega is the head of the club and is excited to be running it. Although the idea to start the Nerd Herd originated a year ago, she has been passionate about her nerdy hobbies – anime and cosplay – ever since she was just a kid. She opened the club so people like her all over the school could meet up, make friends, and just have fun.

There are no requirements to join the Nerd Herd. If you are a fan of any show or comic, movie or cartoon, there is a good chance you will be greeted by a warm welcome into the Nerd Herd. The club had a great turnout from the start, with meetings attended by around twenty-five to thirty people each week.

North Providence High School’s first ever Nerd Herd had its introductory meeting on the afternoon of Thursday October 3rd. The massive turnout demonstrated the level of interest. When asked about future plans for the club I learned that “There’s going to be a Halloween Party next week, and November is going to be superhero month!” The future looks bright for the NPHS Nerd Herd. For anyone interested, meetings are held in Room 226 on Thursdays. All nerds are welcome.
