Richard Reviews: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them is a fantasy action film and a prequel to the Harry Potter film series.  It stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and others.  Its rated PG-13 and is 2 hours and 13 minutes long.

After arriving in New York in 1926, Newt Scamander’s creatures escape from his magical suitcase and he along with two other wizards and a nomag (a person who isn’t a wizard)  must get them back.

Things I liked about this film: the performances where good for the most part although Eddie Redmayne’s high pitched voice was something I did not care for, the CGI looked nice, and the set design was good.  My favorite scene of all is the part where we as an audience go inside the suitcase and experience the real magic of the movie. Overall,  I did not like the movie. The pace and editing were very choppy and overall, I thought that the film was kinda a mess. I was bored and wanted the film to end early.  The character motivations were also something I did not understand.  Overall, the film was boring and a mess.  Maybe if you like Harry Potter then you might like this film, but for other viewers I would not recommend it.  I give this film one popcorn bucket.
