This weekend at Providence Career & Technical Academy, what all wrestlers around Rhode Island have been working for arrived. It was time for the State Tournament. The Cougars headed into States with a 13-2 record, already captured the Division I-B title and with the 3rd best overall record in Rhode Island. The Cougars ended the tournament in 5th place out of 37 teams with 97 points. The Cougars had 4 place fnishers, Angelo Rizzo who got 5th at 113 lbs., Shawn McCarron who got 3rd at 145 lbs., and both Nathan Moreira, 195 lbs., and Josh Wheeler, 120 lbs., got 2nd in their respective weight classes. The Cougars performed well and placed high despite only having 12 out of 14 wrestlers, compared to other top teams that had all 14 weight classes filled. This season for Richard Torti and his staff and wrestlers will always be a memorable one. 3 Cougars, Wheeler, McCarron, and Moreira, have one more week left as they will wrestle in New England’s this upcoming week which will be held at PCTA also.
