It was long awaited but the moment has finally come. The Cougar Boys soccer team finally got their first win of the season over Masters Regional Academy. The Cougars came into the game 0-8-1 and looking for some wins as they were tied for bottom of Division III with Masters. Masters beat the Cougars in last years match-up 3-0, so the Cougars were looking for revenge. As the game started, North Providence made many mistakes but were lucky that Masters did not capitalize on any of them. As halftime came, it was tied 0-0 and the Cougars looked like they weren’t going to leave the game with a win. But, with a few adjustments, the Cougars owned the 2nd half. 4 goals were scored in succession by freshman Mike Ortiz, sophomore Jared Rubino, junior Chris Berreondo, and senior Selman Vaca. The key to success for the Cougars was an amazing defense as senior captain Matthew Ortiz stated, “I barely touched the ball the whole game, the defense did a really nice job.” The game ended in a 4-0 victory for the Cougars and they were jubilant to finally break duct.
