Read, rap, and recite!

Victoria Winter, Reporter

On Thursday, May 7th at 6:30 pm Mr. Ryan will be hosting “Poetry in the Pit”. Students will be able to read, rap, or recite their favorite poems or even some they wrote themselves. Mr. Ryan, as well as Mr. Ramos and Ms. Marsland, will also perform that night.

When asked about it, Mr. Ryan had to say, “In a nutshell, I just want to make sure that the point of this night is to create a low stakes environment where people can share poetry with others. At various points in history, poets have represented the intellectual warrior class. Poets were the people who stood for truth and righteousness in society. We should all have a duty to ourselves; be poets, this is a chance to start.”

Already, students who like to rap and freestyle have shown interest. So once again, go down to the Pit on Thursday, May 7th to spend time listening to poems and meditating on the role of poetry in our lives.

For any questions see Mr. Ryan in the Writing Center after school.
