NPHS Drama Presents “A Night of Dramedy”

Shannon Donnelly

Members of NPHS Drama are taking on quite the challenge this semester- performing two completely different shows in one night. “A Night of Dramedy” will feature two one-act plays tied together by the common theme of teenage identity.

“Selfie” includes a small cast of characters battling difficult issues like divorce, eating disorders, anxiety, and something much worse.  “It’s interesting because we don’t usually do shows with such heavy topics,” says senior Marisa Lenardson. “My character Sam is overwhelmed with schoolwork and has bad anxiety, which I know lots of us can understand. The stories are tough, but relatable. Each character really has a journey.”

The entire cast of “Selfie” is also included in the second play, “Just a High School Play,” where they are joined by another 8 cast members. This was the first play current drama directors Lisa Pasonelli-Leaheey and Melissa Thomas directed when they took over NPHS Drama. The show is less heavy than “Selfie,” with a focus more on the day-to-day struggles students face.

Both shows have a creative style where the last line of one scene is completed with the first line of the next. The change of scenes is very quickly paced and jumps from one character from another, keeping the audience’s interest.

“A Night of Dramedy” will be held in the high school auditorium on April 27, 28, and 29 at 7PM. The full cast list is below.
