Cougars Fall in Thanksgiving Showdown

Hannah Tiner, Editor-in-Chief

At 10:30 on Thanksgiving morning, the Cougar football team kicked off their game vs. the Smithfield Sentinels. For years, the Cougars and Sentinels have been competing on Thanksgiving morning and this match-up has surely become a rivalry. With Smithfield finishing in second place in Division III-A and North Providence finishing in fourth in Division III-B, this game was highly anticipated for both fans and players. This was a very important game also for the fact that it was a tribute to the seniors as it was their last home game. Congratulations to the Seniors: Captains David Tacelli, Edson Resendes, and Jimmy Gaspar, Sammy Sosa, Christian Sermos, Christian Diaz, Kenny Ingram, Andrew Desmarteau, Breyon Warner, Marc Anthony, Ricky Paesano, and Cage Martin.

It was a raw and damp morning, perfect weather for a Thanksgiving classic. However, it was a rough start for the Cougars and they were down by 17 going into the half. The team was supported by a large crowd of blue and gold and NPHS’ very own band, cheerleaders, and dance team. The Cougars tried to rally in the second-half but unfortunately came up short with a 14-31 loss to the Sentinels.
