Mercy Brown’s Grave- Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Exeter
The story of Mercy Brown is one of the classic “vampire” tales from New England. After she died of tuberculosis in 1892, locals dug up her body, found her in a condition they thought unnatural, and burned her heart to break what they believed might be a curse or a vampire. Her grave still draws ghost story enthusiasts.
