On Sunday, March 2nd, the North Providence High School Academic Decathlon Team competed in an 8 hour event at Bryant University. This year’s theme was “Our Changing Climate”. The students competed in the subject areas of Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Literature, Music, Art, Economics, as well as Essay, Speech and Interview.
Congratulations and special recognition go to the following students:
Senior, Claudine Masoka, who won a SILVER MEDAL in LITERATURE in the Scholastic Division.
Senior, Tanisha Kanthavel, who won a GOLD MEDAL in MATH in the Honors Division.
Junior, Kaayva Kabilan, who won a SILVER MEDAL in MATH and GOLD MEDALS in ART, ECONOMICS, MUSIC, SCIENCE and SOCIAL SCIENCE in the Scholastic Division.
Junior, Alisha Zhuang, won a medal for “The Top Scorer Overall” from NPHS.
In addition, this year North Providence High School placed 9th out of 19 teams from 17 schools around the state!
“I am so proud of these students and their achievements! Again, I would like to congratulate all 14 students who participated. Their efforts and dedication to our team proved another successful season of academic decathlon! Go Cougars!!” says Ms. Paesano, the beloved and proud advisor of the Academic Decathlon Team.
