As the Academic Decathlon Competition is quickly approaching on March 2nd, students are preparing for the competition. With that, members of the club are excited yet nervous. With last year’s record of 6 students medaled, they hope to medal even more this year.
Students compete in a series of tests in math, art, music, etc. Each school is allowed nine students to make up their teams and compete in different divisions. The three divisions are honors which are students with an average GPA of 90, scholastic which are students with an average of 80s, and varsity which are students with an average of 70s. Along with the tests, students will have to compete in the speech and interview portion. The rest of the members of the clubs that are not in these divisions will not have to do a speech or interview portion but will still take the tests. Everyone has the chance to earn a medal.
Let’s see what members of the Academic club have to say:
Lyndsie Lapierre who’s a junior said, “Well this is my first year as member of the honors division team. I’m nervous because now I need to prepare a speech and an interview portion.”
Another fellow member Alisha Zhuang, also a junior said, “I’m so nervous especially for the speech because you have to make one up once you get there.” Zhuang placed last year and is hoping to bring another medal home this year.
All members of the club are putting lots of effort and time into studying for these tests. On behalf of NPHS Cougar Courier Staff, we wish you guys good luck!
