Deanna Parrillo has been an English teacher at North Providence High School for many years. But sadly she’ll be leaving North Providence High School to be a librarian at Burrillville High School.
Before Mrs. Parillo became a teacher she worked in the finance industry. Even though she loved the company and the people she didn’t feel like she was making a difference. She loved reading and writing, and she felt drawn to share that with young people. In her own words she considers being a teacher a reward. Mrs. Parillo says she’ll miss building relationships with her students because she won’t have that opportunity in her new role as a librarian at Burrillville High School since she won’t be interacting with students on a regular basis.
Mrs. Parillo plans on learning the basics of the day to day operations at Burrillville High School, collaborating with teachers on research related projects, papers, or any type of information they need. She would also like to increase students’ reading for fun by creating book clubs, book displays, or challenges. As a librarian she’ll be responsible for managing the collection of books print and digital, helping students or whoever find books, acquire new books, working with teachers for whatever they need, and supervising chromebook repairs. Mrs. Parillo says she is really excited to be in a leadership role at the Burrillville High School and someday she hopes to retire as a librarian.
On her final day as a teacher she received a drawing, a letter from students, cards, gifts and hugs from colleagues. Mrs. Parillo’s final thoughts on her final day were “it’s been an honor to be a teacher in this district for so long and leaving was not an easy decision.” Her absence will be greatly felt by North Providence High School.
