Welcome to the 2024 election year!
It has been said before and it will be said again but this is such a historic election and many Americans are eager to have a say in who will run the country for the next four years. Including high school seniors, many of whom will be eligible to vote in November. According to Stastia nearly 50% of 18 to 24 year olds are registered voters.
So how exactly does one cast their ballot?
Make sure you are eligible to vote.
If you turn 18 on or before November 5, 2024, then you are an eligible voter.
Educate yourself on the candidates.
Do not just vote for who your parents or friends are voting for. You are your own person, so make your own decisions. Here are some reliable sources to research the respective candidates;
The Associated Press, ABC News, PBS News.
Check out their social media accounts as well, just keep in mind that they want your vote so it is a bit of a biased source.
Register.
You can register to vote in person at your local town hall, by mail to the address that applies to your hometown, or online here.
If you are unsure of your registration status there is a button at the bottom of the voter registration page linked earlier where you can see if you are registered. Voter registration closes on October 6, 2024.
You cannot vote if you are unregistered.
Vote!
To vote by mail you need to request a ballot before October 15, 2024 and return it by November 5th. Early voting (which is located at your town hall) will take place from October 16 – November 4, 2024. Election day is November 5th. No ballots will be accepted after this date.
You have a voice in this country’s future; do not fall silent.
