Last night, North Providence held a ring and banner ceremony for the 2023 state champions: the Division III boys basketball team and the Divison II competition cheerleading team. Each member of the two teams received a ring (pictured above). The boys basketball team banner, as well as the cheerleading team banner, were rehung in the main gym, with the new 2023 addition. Congratulations to the members of both teams for their accomplishments!
To continue the night, the Cougars hosted the Spartans of Scituate. Early into the game, junior Kyle Prete put 3 points onto the scoreboard, and 13 more throughout the match. They had a very strong start to the game. The Cougars kept their spark throughout the second quarter, with a 32-8 lead at halftime. During halftime, the dance team performed their first routine of the season, followed by the cheerleaders performing their routine.
The Spartans began to rack up points during the third quarter, but not enough to beat the Cougars. Junior Gary Cleveland had a strong second half of the game, adding several points to the scoreboard. Senior Ryan Rodriguez, who led the Cougars with 21 points overall, and sophomore Jeremiah Lenus, also had notable performances. The final score was 60-37, making their overall record 4-1. The next home game for the boys basketball team is on December 27th against Central. Make sure to support your North Providence Cougars!
