The Lady Cougars volleyball team rocked their pink bows and face paint at the pink out game on the 11th against the Blue Wave of Hope High School. This special event was not just about volleyball, but it was a heartfelt initiative to raise awareness and support for the Gloria Gemma Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by breast cancer. The ROC was transformed into a sea of pink as both players and fans donned the color symbolizing breast cancer awareness. The Lady Cougars were not only playing for victory but, more importantly, to make a difference in the lives of those fighting this relentless disease.
The match was highly anticipated, and the stands were packed with supportive fans of the Cougars. From the first set to the last, the energy was electrifying, with both teams displaying incredible virtuosity, flair, and tenacity. The score was a reflection of how badly both teams wanted the victory, and unfortunately, the Blue Wave came out on top with a final score of 2-3. Although the loss was tough, the sense of unity and accomplishment far outweighed the end result.
Before the much-anticipated varsity game, an amusing Parents vs. Players game added an extra layer of fun to the evening. Parents of the Lady Cougars took to the court to face their daughters in a friendly, yet fiercely contested match. There were points during the match where the parents were besting their children at their own sport! The smiles, laughter, and competitive spirit on display were a sight to behold, showcasing the strong bond between the players and their families.
The Pink Out game served as a platform to raise funds for the Gloria Gemma Foundation, established in 2004 in memory of Gloria Gemma, a mother who lost her fight with breast cancer in 2002. Many parents made cupcakes, cake-pops, and brought other baked goods to be sold, while others made bracelets and helped with selling t-shirts. The match was a tribute to those who have faced the challenge of breast cancer, and a call to action for continued support and research. Even in the face of a close 2-3 loss on the court, the real victory was in the support shown for the Gloria Gemma Foundation and the awareness raised about breast cancer.
