Attention all North Providence High School students!
Are you a fan of reading, writing, or just talking about poetry? Did you really like watching the Dead Poets Society? Did Mr. Garganese’s poetic readings spark something inside you? If any of these apply to you–you should look into joining NPHS’s Poetry Club.
Debuting as a senior project under Jai Perez last year, the Poetry Club found early success and enjoyed months of frequent meetings. Over time, the group built a community that garnered chemistry and improved their writing skills through back and forth feedback and criticism. As the end of the year neared however, President Perez’s graduation warranted a change of scenery. In order to keep operations running, Perez and the rest of the club nominated longtime members Darrien Giuliano and Andrew Grinnell as next year’s co-presidents. Giuliano and Grinnell met over the summer and outlined a blueprint for the year that puts a deeper focus on the varying styles of poetry as well as encouraging as much creative writing as possible. “Things are going to be different”, Grinnell reports about the layout of the club, “we’re excited to really look into poetry as an art and make some of our own.”
The club finds itself in a new home this year, as last year’s club advisor Mrs. Howard will not be returning. Instead, the club will move to Mrs. Giammarco’s room in 213, who will also become the new club’s adviser. Meetings will be held Wednesdays after school from 2PM-2:50PM. The first official meeting will take place next week on October 17th in room 213–check it out!
