The Caped Crusader Strikes Again: “The Batman” Movie Commentary

If you are a fan of DC or pop culture in general, you have probably heard of the new Batman movie. The new film, “The Batman,” was released on March 4, 2022. From the day of release, it has received glowing reviews from critics and fans alike. This movie, however, is not a sequel but rather the beginning of a new era of the DC movie franchise. It focuses on the more psychological aspects of Batman and has been described as a detective-type film, such as David Fincher’s Seven or Zodiac. Batman has been casting a shadow of Gotham, leaving criminals in fear of his presence. Suddenly, a shocking murder happens, and a new, more sadistic criminal rises from the shadows, causing Batman to go on a journey to find this mystery murderer.

Matt Reeves provides the audience with a suspenseful but fast-paced experience, along with a taste of nostalgia for those who grew up with the original characters from the original films, like James Gordon, Catwoman, and the Batman himself. The movie features new faces in the franchise, such as Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Robert Pattinson as Batman, and Paul Dano as the Riddler. Even though some of these well-loved characters do not get as much screen time as fans would have hoped, the film still tells a compelling story that dives deep into the darker, more twisted sides of Batman.

This movie manages to dig even deeper into the story of this caped crusader and who he truly is behind the mask. The commentary from different characters turns him into a physical manifestation of darkness, hope, a force that can not be stopped, a vigilante that will go to extreme lengths to protect his city. The film has its imperfections, but it is a convivial watch for anyone who enjoys the Batman Franchise. It’s an exhilarating ride for everyone, old fans and new, with exceptional action sequences, genuine relationships, and an old-fashioned “whodunnit” story.
