April 4, 2017
On March 23rd North Providence High School student Jacob Jorgensen participated in the AMS’s “Who Want to be a Mathematician?” tournament. Jacob was tied for fifth in the first round and was thus eliminated. He received a prize of a collection of math related essays, as well as a bag of goodies given to every student participating. Fellow Junior Stephen Grivers also helped Jacob in the competition by acting similar to the lifeline on the show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”.
The winner of the game was Alexander Galarraga from Classical Highschool who won a total of $1,000 and a calculator. He won his normal round, and the square off round. However, he failed to correctly answer the question in the bonus round to gain an additional $2,000.
