Richard Reviews: Captain America: Civil War

Marvel continues its line of superhero movies with Captain America: Civil War. This enters phase three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  It is rated PG-13 and has a run time of 147 minutes.  The film stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johanson, Sebastian Stan, and many more.  The underlying theme in the film is vengeance.

The U.S. government is upset with The Avengers for all the damage they have done to cites around the world and wants to have more control over the team.  Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, meets a woman who proceeds to tell him that her son was killed by the destruction caused during a battle between The Avengers and one of their foes.  She explains that her son was very intelligent and had high aspirations but is now dead in part to him.  Iron Man feels tremendously guilty about this and believes in giving up control.  Captain America on the other hand does not want to give in to the agreement because he feels that they should be able to help whenever and wherever they want.  This divides The Avengers and a fight between them ensues.

This film was an experience, an adventure that marvel fanboys and fangirls will have a great time with and was worth the hype.  What the film does great is flesh out the characters even more than what we’ve learned about them through the other films.  It also shows us more character connections that we did not expect.  The film’s story is very engaging, mixing the superhero aspects of other films and some other elements, that in my opinion, reminded me of some spy movies.  It starts a little darker than other Marvel movies, but makes up for it with hilarious sequence later on.  The action is spectacular.  The stunts are great and were well edited.  The cinematography includes some “shaky cam.”  “Shaky cam” has become popular in the 2010’s, however it can sometimes be distracting to the audience.  The technique works well in this movie as we have no difficulty following the action.  The best fight scene is when the Captain America led troops and Iron Man’s bunch clash together. They are also joined by some old friends and a new ally.  The battle was intense, fun and what we expected from Marvel .  The acting is also great with everyone giving strong performances.  Captain America Civil War is yet another great film from Marvel Studios.  Fans will have a fantastic time with this film, and it definitely gets us excited for the next one.  Out of a Small, Medium, Large or Jumbo, I give the film a Jumbo Popcorn Bucket.
