America runs on caffeine. Today we value coffee like it’s water, a medium iced extra extra fits right into our morning routine and a grande caramel macchiato goes great with our dinner. If you were to take a drive down mineral spring, you would come across over 6 places to buy coffee in the matter of 10 minutes. Coffee chains such as Dunkin Donuts and Mary Lou’s plague the streets of North Providence.
When you walk into the doors of NPHS, you can see dozens of students and teachers with a coffee of their choice in their hand walking to their next class, despite the well-known “No coffee whatsoever” rule. Whether it’s the simple novelty of having something to sip on during class or the headaches many of us get when we miss our morning coffee, the bottom line is we don’t only enjoy our coffee,we depend on it.
I gave my senior skills class a quick survey about their coffee drinking habits. Seven out of the 18 people I surveyed said they drink coffee everyday, and only four out of these 18 people said they would rather buy their coffee than make it. When you buy a coffee everyday, $2.50 adds up quickly.
Coffee Connection is yet another place to supply students and adults with their daily dose of caffeine. With new flavors and concoctions like Mint Chocolate Chip and Nutella, Coffee Connection is the new place that high schoolers are literally drooling over. Some people that prefer a more bitter coffee taste would elect to try a french or dark roast , when people that prefer their coffee more like a dessert might go with a snickerdoodle or candy bar concoction.
Owners Fadi Elammar and Danny Abounajem decided to open up a third Coffee Connection location Wednesday November 5th at 1744 Mineral Spring Ave. On any given day, one can see high schoolers sitting at the couches drinking their gourmet coffees or eating a bagel or even a wrap or grinder. The wide variety of food and coffee leaves room for even a very picky eater, and makes Coffee Connection stand out amongst the other 10 plus places to buy coffee on Mineral Spring. From cappuccinos and protein shakes to salad and pastries Coffee Connection is unlike your typical gas station coffee. The competition amongst coffee shops may be tough but business is going well; said owner Fadi.
