On Sunday, November 02, 2014, Cougar Close-up hosted their annual Red, White, and Blueberry pancake breakfast in the school’s cafeteria. The breakfast began at 8:30am and ended at 12:00pm. Along with members of Cougar Close-up, members of National honor society volunteered to assist working the event. All the members tirelessly worked to raise money for Cougar Close-up’s upcoming trip to Washington D.C. The breakfast had intrigued the community because Robert Healey, candidate for governor 2014, attended today.
Besides the iconic blue and red pancakes, there were many other activities to participate in. For the children, there was a patriotic coloring section. Second, there was a table by the entrance to the cafeteria to buy multi-colored pashmina scarfs. Third, there was the 50/50 raffle where buying a ticket for a dollar, and six tickets for five dollars would give you a chance to win money. Fourth, the Penny Social (same prices as 50/50) was a raffle where you could win a large assortment of prizes from a Hasbro’s Frozen Olaf’s Connect Four to Chocolate dreams, a bouquet of chocolate treats. All in all the event was enjoyable and successful. Just ask NHS member, Giana Horowitz, who says, “the event was successful and many people attended. The student body showed their support”.
