In a matchup of two of the better Division IV teams, the North Smithfield Northmen
came out on top 28-0 over the Cougars at North Providence.
The game started off slow with
neither team advancing the ball on offense in the first half. It was the special teams for the
Northmen that went to work as Nick Cicerone returned a punt for a touchdown in the first
quarter, providing the only points in the first half. The Cougar defense held strong as the Rakeem
Bontemp picked off two passes in the first half, but the offense could not put any points on the
board as Nick Cicerone had an interception of his own in the second quarter. Entering the third
quarter with a score of 7-0, the Northmen pulled away, scoring three times in the third, courtesy
of an interception return, a punt return, and a touchdown run. The Cougars could not get
anything going, as North Smithfield went on to win 28-0.
The Cougars drop to 3-2 in DivisionĀ IV play, but look to improve in front of their home crowd when they host Tiverton in the Homecoming game next Saturday, 10/25 at 1:30.
