October 23 was the senior night for the North Providence Cougar’s. Coming into the game the Lady Cougars had a 5-4 record, and were 4th in Division III-A. The opposing West Warwick Wizards were 10-2 and were 2nd in division. This game was the last home league game for the seniors, and everyone knew they would play their hearts out.
This game was just back and forth, neither team wanting to give an inch. The game started off slow in the first couple of minutes until West Warwick scored 15 minutes into the first half. During halftime, the Cougars got focused and came out strong in the 2nd half. After a great build-up, Junior Olivia Capraro found the back of the net to make the game 1-1.
The game reached the final minute. The Lady Cougars finished their senior night with a draw of 1-1 with Olivia Capraro scoring the only goal for North Providence. The seniors of the 2013 Lady Cougars soccer team who were honored before the game were Mia Scampoli, Sara Paesano, Arianna Thibeadou, Ariana Africo, Jordan Smith, Casie Weidenger, Madison Jamack.
When Captain Ariana Africo was asked: “How do you feel about Senior Night?” She answered, “I love it because my team is my family. It’s sad and we are really close and you can see how sad everyone is that the seniors are leaving.” That quote defined how important this team is to the exiting seniors. They will surely be missed by the Lady Cougar Soccer Team.
