What do you think of when you hear the word “winter”? Christmas, snow, and winter break are all things that pop up in people’s minds. However, let’s not forget about a big part of winter. . . the flu.

It certainly isn’t the best part about this season. I would much rather sip on some hot chocolate near the fireplace than be sick with a fever. Yet, people getting sick in the winter is so common and germs spread fast and easily. Therefore, it’s important to know some preventive measures that can help us enjoy this season to the fullest.

Below are 5 ways to prevent getting sick this winter.

  1. WASH YOUR HANDS: You’ve probably heard this so much already but it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent getting sick. Soap and water are the way to go and hand sanitizers are great too. Make sure to wash for at least 20 seconds.
  2. Avoid rubbing your eyes: Germs travel when they’re on your skin and then get inside your body. Your hands have germs and when you rub your eyes, those germs are entering your body.
  3. Eat healthy foods: Yes, those dark green vegetables on your plates are healthy for you. They might not taste the best or look the most appealing but they sure hold tons of nutrients. Feeding your body healthy food daily will make your body stronger and healthier. It’ll also make your immune system stronger, decreasing the likelihood of getting sick.
  4. Exercise often: It’s the same idea as the habit with eating healthy food. If you exercise and keep your body active it makes you healthier and stronger, lowering your chances of getting sick.
  5. Keep your distance: If someone you know is sick, do your best to stay distant as germs are more likely to spread with close contact.

With these five tips, I hope they gave you some advice on how to prevent getting sick this winter. The last thing you would want for this holiday season is to spend it getting sick. I hope you have a wonderful holiday! Stay safe and healthy!
