On the afternoon of Sunday November 26, the town of North Providence welcomed the jolly man that children around the world raved about: Santa Claus!

Mayor Lombardi’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting took place at the Meehan Overlook at Notte Park. The North Providence High School band put the holiday spirit into full effect during their half-hour performance of holiday tunes from 4:00-4:30. Shortly after, Santa arrived and the lighting of the Christmas tree began. Like the tree, the children’s faces lit up when they saw the man they had been waiting for. Families got to talk to the man from the North Pole and take a free photo with him.

The event also had a free sleigh ride to enjoy before or after meeting Santa. The dozens of people attending helped themselves to some warm hot chocolate or coffee, chocolate milk, and chocolate chip cookies. Although the temperature was not high, spirits were through the roof on this magical night that warmed many of the town children’s hearts.

The event was a great start way to kick of the holiday season for North Providence!
