On March 3rd, North Providence High School’s DECA Chapter attended its first annual state competition with six out of the nine members in attendance, placing in the top three of the state.

In years past, NPHS had a club named Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) that would attend a similar competition. However this year, the school made the switch from FBLA to DECA.

DECA is a business oriented club that focuses on student’s proficiency in business related subjects as well as presentation skill. Many events at DECA competitions feature written tests as well as role-plays. At this year’s state career development conference, the team did extraordinary with six members taking home medals.

First place finishes came from juniors Stephanie Tudela  in Professional Selling, Victoria Winter in Principles of Finance, and partners Jared Rubino and Matthew McGill in Sports Marketing Team Competition. Seniors Vianelly Garcia and Dyana DaCosta also got 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism.

Now, the team looks to fund-raise money in order to send their members to the national conference in Anaheim, California.

Good Luck to NPHS DECA!
