On Monday, January 9th the URI Writing classes went on a field trip to the Salvatore Mancini Resource and Activity Center. Upon their arrival, students split up into groups ranging from four to six people. Each group was greeted with a senior citizen for them to interview.

As part of the URI curriculum, each student is required to write a profile piece. To make the project a fun, learning experience on profile writing and interviewing skills, teachers Ms. Masso, Mrs. Parrillo, and Mr. Curtis set up the field trip with the senior center. Students were able to learn about the seniors as well as about what life was like in the past. Afterwards, the classes got lunch at either Panera Bread or Chipotle before returning to the school. Students especially enjoyed getting to know the seniors and learning about their lives and hope to revisit the center once their papers are complete in order to read them to their interviewees.
