North Providence High School held the Eight Grade Open House on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. It began at 6:00 pm and ended at 8:00 pm. That night, high school student representatives showed current eighth graders and their parents what life is like here. It all started off in the library where everyone received general highlights about the school.
After that, tours were given by some of our current students to show the guests everything they’d need to know, as well as meet some of our own teachers on each floor. In the hallways there was tons of representation from our music department. The Jazz Band was having their regular Wednesday night rehearsals and decided to go out into the hallways instead of the music room to play what they’ve been working on so far this year. The percussion class was next to the art gallery showing how much fun it is to take the class with demonstrations using hand drums, buckets, and garbage cans. Also, on the second floor outside of the auditorium, we had some of our Concert Choir singing Christmas carols as the tours were passing by.
When the tours ended, the eighth graders and their parents/guardians were brought to the cafeteria where cookies and refreshments were served. The cafeteria also displayed many of the clubs NPHS offers to the kids. Such as Yearbook, Science Olympiad, FBLA, Cougar Courier, Drama, Tech Club, Writing Center, and Nerd Herd. These, plus a few other clubs, set up display tables to show what they’re all about. It was a great opportunity for the future ninth graders, and their parents to see all that we offer and to ask any final questions before leaving.
