photoMrs. Bennett, one of the school’s Business and Information Technology teachers has been given the opportunity to be a substitute Vice Principal at Whelan Elementary School.

This is what she had to say on the unique opportunity:

Question 1: What made you choose to become the Vice Principal at Whelan Elementary?

Bennett: I am interested in pursuing a career as an administrator and I am honored that Superintendent Smith asked me if I would substitute while the principal is out.

Question 2: What’s it like at the elementary school? Do the children look up to you?

Bennett: The elementary school is so different from the high school.  The students are so small and admire adults!  One of the best things about being at Whelan during December is the holiday spirit.  The students are so excited about Santa and gifts!  Each day I wear different holiday jewelry–Santa earrings, snowflake bracelet, reindeer jewelry–and the students love it!  Another difference is that during lunch time I am opening milks, tying shoelaces, or wiping up messes.  Very different from the high school!

Question 3: Do you miss the High School, and teaching the students there?

Bennett: Do I miss the high school?  Of course, I do.  I miss seeing my students each day and watching them learning new things and succeed.  Just remember how much you have improved your computer skills from September!  I also miss interacting with teenagers, which is very different than kindergartners.  The elementary students tattle a lot–he hit me, she is whispering, he touched my lunch, she is in my “personal space” (yes, they use the words “personal space”).

Question 4: Is there anything special coming up at the Elementary school?

Bennett: Today is the Holiday Bazaar at Whelan–the children are very excited to doing their holiday shopping!  So…I am off to be a helper today!

Congratulations to Mrs. Bennett on having this wonderful experience!
