How to Love Yourself: Surround Yourself With Positivity

How can you be happy when you’re surrounded by negative people? You can’t! No matter the amount of friends you may have, it is very important to make sure that they aren’t the ones bringing you down. Friends are there to support you and encourage you to feel good about yourself, not to make negative comments about you or your appearance. Think about it, do your friends make you feel good about yourself? Do they make you happy? If you answered “yes” to these questions then you should keep these friends around. However, if they make negative comments about how you look or dress or undermine your achievements and passions, then you should consider finding better friends.

For example, in middle school I had this one friend who didn’t make me feel very good about myself. She would make comments about the way I looked, dressed, and acted. She would constantly tell me I was weird or that my nails were too long or that I dressed weird and that she needed to take me shopping. When I realized that her comments were not honest but plain rude, I stopped talking to her. I realized that in order to feel good about myself, I needed to find positive people who would be supportive of who I was.

I’m not saying that your friends need to be happy and positive all the time – no one is perfect. What I am saying is that your friends should not be the ones who put you down. The whole point of having friends is so that you can have a good time as well as someone to bring you up when you’re feeling down. It is important that you associate yourself with people who make you happy because everyone needs a bit of sunlight in order to flourish!
