New Advanced Placement classes are making their way to North Providence High School. I had the chance to speak to some juniors who are taking AP classes next year to see why they chose their classes. There seem to be two main factors juniors considered when choosing: interest and college. Juniors chose classes that intrigued them. “I’m taking AP Computer Science because it’s a new program I’m interested in,” says Noah Coogan. Leslie Pho is taking AP Psychology; “…It actually interests me,” she commented.
The other important factor many juniors are taking into consideration is their future. Many juniors picked their classes based on what they plan to study in college. “It is something that I think I will major in once I go to college,” says Pho about psychology. Coogan is taking computer science because “Performing well on the test, I believe, is good for getting into college.”
These may be things for future juniors to consider as they decide what classes they will take in their final year of school. However, these are only a few of the many factors to consider. Every junior has their own opinion, so there are many other reasons they choose the courses they do. Personal interest and preparation for college just happened to be the two main influences for these juniors’ choices.
