On March 24th, North Providence hosted the Rhode Island Interscholastic Improv League Championship. Tickets were $5 dollars at the door, with the show beginning at 7:00pm. Five teams, representing Central Falls, South Kingston, and North Providence High School faced off in a bracket system competition.

On the left bracket, the Warriors (CFHS), Something Spicy (SKHS), and Wild Cats (NPHS) each performed two rounds of performances. The winner with the highest total score then faced the winner of the right bracket which also consisted of two performances per team. On the right bracket, were Cliff (SKHS) and Megatron (NPHS).

The event was hosted by Neal Leaheey who works with the League. He and two others, Riley Cash and Charlie Santos tutored the students on the art of improv before the big event. Musical accompaniment was provided by Tyler Browns on the keyboard. The judges that night were Frank O’Donnell, Kate Sayles and Joshua Masood.

The night was filled with wacky suggestions such as Guy Fieri at the library and an interview with a body painter. Laughs could be hear the entire time from both the audience and the stage.

First the first time in the history of the league’s history, NPHS was able to win the championship and Jarrod M. Pimintel Memorial Championship Trophy with Megatron securing the top score.

Congratulations to all who participated!
