Richard Reviews: Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children is a young adult fantasy film director by Tim Burton and is based on the book of the same name.  The film stars Asa Butterfield, Elle Purnell, Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson, and Judi Dench.  The film is 127 minutes long and is rated PG-13.

After the death, and at the request of his grandfather, 16 year old Jake and his father travel to an island.  Here Jake (unbeknownst to his father) travels back in time to 1943 where he finds a home run by Miss Peregrine and her children. The children have strange abilities.  While Jake is there with the children, he must protect them after Miss Peregrine leaves because they are being hunted down by creepy monsters that feed on peoples eyes.  Overall this was a very good movie.  I really liked the different abilities that each child had.  The acting was pretty good as well.  I think that Asa Butterfields performance started off weak, but as the film progressed, he turned in a decent performance.  And of course Samuel L. Jackson is awesome just like he is in almost every film.  The film was well shot, had a good musical score, and nice production values.  There is one character that is the stereotypical “mean kid” that I did not care for.

Overall, I think that Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children is a very good movie that impressed me and I think that fans of the book will enjoy it as well.  I will give the movie three popcorn buckets.
